Comms director Ross to lead ScotRail workforce – Daily Business

David Ross: new rail role

ScotRail has handed its communications director David Ross a key role in leading the network’s workforce.

Mr Ross, who joined ScotRail in 2017, is the longest-serving member of the current executive team.

He worked in the House of Commons, the House of Lords, and the Scottish Parliament, and was a member of senior leadership teams during the 2014 referendum, 2015 General Election, and 2016 Scottish Parliament election.

In his new interim role, he will take on leadership responsibility for the majority of ScotRail’s workforce, including frontline teams such as drivers, conductors, ticket examiners, and station staff, as well as several key head office departments, including Human Resources, Commercial, Communications, and Safety & Sustainability.

A successor for the role of communications director will be announced in due course.

ScotRail managing director Joanne Maguire said: “David has been part of the senior leadership team at ScotRail for several years now and, combined with his experience and knowledge of Scotland’s wider public sector, is ideally placed to take on this role.

Mr Ross said: “I am proud to take on this role as we work to grow passenger numbers, deliver a reliable railway, and provide value for money for the taxpayer.

“I am particularly pleased to have the opportunity to lead so many of our great ScotRail staff, who deliver a fantastic service to our customers every day.

“With the upcoming abolition of peak fares, we are working flat out to encourage as many people as possible to choose rail.”
