Solasta Bio, which specialises in green insecticides, has relocated to purpose-built facilities at the West of Scotland Science Park as it prepares to commercialise its operations.

The move from the Glasgow University campus to the Helix Building at Kelvin Campus provides the company with its first dedicated standalone facility, providing more than 4,000 sq ft of custom-fitted laboratory and office space for its 26 staff.

Shireen Davies, CEO of Solasta Bio, said: “This space gives us the capacity and capability to advance our R&D programmes and scale our operations as we progress toward commercialisation.”

Solasta Bio has made rapid progress since it was spun-out of the University in 2021. It secured an oversubscribed $14 million Series A funding round in September 2024 and has achieved significant technical and regulatory milestones.

Public Finance Minister Ivan McKee attended the official opening of the new facility with key investors Forbion, Scottish Enterprise and Yield Lab Europe. He said the firm’s move will support the development of complex products for international markets and will allow further expansion, creating skilled jobs.

“It will also contribute to Scotland’s global reputation as a destination for biotech excellence,” he said. “We are committed to supporting business growth and innovation in the biotechnology sector, as demonstrated by the investment provided by Scottish Enterprise to support this move.”

Scottish Enterprise recently supported the company with a £190,000 grant towards the fit out and capital costs of the new premises.

Jane Martin, managing director of innovation and investment at Scottish Enterprise, said its support has been instrumental in accelerating its journey from academic research to commercialisation.
