One of Scotland’s last foundries has been wound up and placed in the hands of liquidators after 200 years in business.
Forty-four jobs have been lost after Ballantine Castings in Bo’ness, presented a petition to Falkirk Sheriff Court to wind up the company and appoint an interim liquidator.
The foundry’s traces roots back to the early 1820s and the iron foundry to 1856. It has been owned and run by the Ballantine family for seven generations.
It has made some of the country’s most iconic ironwork – including the famous replica cannons at Edinburgh Castle. It was more recently involved in restoring the clock on Big Ben tower in London.
Hilco Valuation Services has been appointed to assist in the disposal of Ballantine’s assets. Its trading site in Bo’ness will be subject to a marketing and disposal process in due course.
