Las Vegas Strip casinos finally halt an alarming trend

Consumer confidence is an important part of success in tourism.

If consumers feel good about business conditions, their employment, and future income, they also feel much better about splurging when it comes to taking a vacation trip.

Consumer confidence rises in July

Consumers’ confidence in July improved as the Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index rose by 2 points in July to 97.2 from 95.2 in June, according to a Conference Board statement.

The Expectations Index, which is based on consumers’ short-term outlook for income, business, and labor market conditions, rose by 4.5 points to 74.4.

Consumer Confidence Index:

  • July 2025, 97.2.
  • June 2025, 95.2.

Expectations Index:

  • July 2025, 74.4.
  • June 2025, 69.9.

The results were a good sign for the index, but consumers are not yet out of the woods, as expectations are still below the threshold of 80 that typically signals a recession ahead for the sixth consecutive month.

“Consumer confidence has stabilized since May, rebounding from April’s plunge, but remains below last year’s heady levels,” Stephanie Guichard, senior economist, Global Indicators at The Conference Board, said in a statement.

“In July, pessimism about the future receded somewhat, leading to a slight improvement in overall confidence,” Guichard said.

The Consumer Confidence Index had deteriorated in June after recovering in May, decreasing by 3.2 points in June to 95.2 from 98.4 in the previous month.

Improving consumer confidence seems to have helped casinos on the Las Vegas Strip and its surrounding areas, as more cash flowed into Vegas resorts in June.

Las Vegas Strip casino gamblers returned to the tables and machines, which was good news for casino owners as total gaming win revenue increased in June after four straight months of declines.

More gaming win revenue for casinos, however, might not be such good news for gamblers, who are on the other side of that ledger.
