A traffic control firm has shut down suddenly after a tax office demand led to it being placed in administration.
The decision affects 119 staff at Uddingston-based Apex Traffic Management whose managers said they had “little choice” after receiving a petition by HMRC for liquidation.
Apex provided traffic control equipment and services for roadworks and had contracts with major clients such as Transport Scotland, Highways England and Amey Construction.
The company also supplied traffic management services to a number of venues including Hamilton and Ayr Racecourses and the Open at Royal Troon.
Despite generating £9.7 million in revenue, the firm collapsed under mounting financial pressures.
